Chain Gang is a fast, easy app than knows almost every fast food chain in America
Want to know the nearest location of your favorite fast food restaurant? Touch the microphone icon and say the restaurant name. You could say "Burger King" and in a split-second Chain Gang will show you the nearest Burger King.
Ask Chain Gang what's "near by" and immediately the fast food restaurants closest to you are displayed. It also has
- A pointer, and distance, always pointing to the restaurant
- Chain radar of fast food around you
- Maps and directions and it even helps dial a restaurant's phone number.
Chain Gang continuously updates as you move around. It is fun to see the pointers and distances and chain radar change as you walk or ride.
There are over 105,000 chain locations and more are being added all the time. GeoBase updates are free.
Requires Android 1.6 or greater and a network connection for GeoBase downloads
What chains are in Chain Gang - Fast Food?
These are some of the chains you'll find.

What happens after I install Chain Gang – fast food?
After Chain Gang is installed and is launched the first time it tries to contact the Chain Gang server to download its GeoBase. If the Android is not connected to the Internet Chain Gang will give a message and close. If connected Chain Gang will connect to the server and download the GeoBase. A progress meter shows the status of the download (which can take from two to five minutes depending upon connection speed).
When downloading you want to use the fastest, most reliable network connection you can get. The best is a WiFi connection like you might get from a home wireless network or a public WiFi hotspot from your work, coffee shop or a library. If a WiFi is not available then a G3 or better mobile connection will work.
What is the list of fast food chains showing when Chain Gang launches?
The list of restaurant chains is displayed when Chain Gang launches. You can scroll this list by dragging with your finger in order to see all the chains listed in the GeoBase. Touch and hold on an icon in the list, for about a second, and a menu will pop up. For example, touch and hold "Burger King" and this menu will appear.

Closest, Closest two and Closest three will show the closest one, two or three Burger King locations to where you are. Near ZipCode shows a screen for entering a zip code using the keyboard. Then Burger King locations near that ZipCode will be displayed.
How do I use the microphone icon?
When you touch the microphone icon a screen that looks like this appear:
Speak in a normal voice, in English, and Chain Gang will respond.
- Speak the name of any chain just as the name is listed in the list of chains. Chain Gang will list the nearest locations of that chain. For example, say "Starbucks" to see the near by locations.
- Or you can say "Near by" to get a list of the nearest locations out of all the chains.
- Or you can say "Radar" to see the Chain radar of nearby locations.
- Or you can speak a zip code and Chain Gang will list the locations nearest to that zip code. Speak the digits of the zip code. For example speak 10012 as 1-0-0-1-2.
- Or you can say "About" to show the About screen or "Update" to check for GeoBase updates.
Where is the microphone icon?
The microphone button needs a network connection to work. If a network connection is unavailable the microphone will not be visible. If you move into a WiFi hot spot or into a cellular area with network connectivity the microphone will reappear.
What does the Nearby screen show?
The Nearby screen shows the list of restaurants near you. This screen changes as you move around. The arrow always points to the restaurant location. The distance under the arrow changes as you move around.
If you were to follow one of the arrows you will eventually run into that restaurant!
In this screen the TCBY is 1.2 miles ahead to the left and the Subway is also 1.2 miles ahead to the left.
Touch an entry for a couple of seconds and a pop-up will appear for getting a map of directions or dialing the restaurant's phone number.
What does the Chain radar screen show?
The Chain radar screen shows where fast food restaurants are relative to you. This screen changes as you move around. You are in the middle. The green line always points to the top of your Android. The black line always points northwards.

When a logo is over the green line the distance to the restaurant is shown at the top. In this screen the distance to both the Subway and the TCBY is 1.2 miles. They are also next door to one another!
Touch one of the icons for a couple of seconds and a pop-up will appear for getting a map of directions or dialing the phone number.

What is all the stuff on the Chain Gang – About screen?

The About screen shows interesting things about your version of Chain Gang. For example, on this screen you can see this is Application version 2.0 with GeoBase version 7. It also shows the number of chains and locations.

Use your finger to scroll the screen to see more information.
GPS is the status of the GPS fix; Compass is green if your Android has a compass capability and Internet connected has a green check if the Android is currently connected to the Internet.
All of Chain Gang's capabilities are available when all these checks are green. But it will continue to function even when none are green.
The small writing at the bottom acknowledges the trademarks of the chains contained in the GeoBase. You can scroll this list by dragging with your finger. What is the GPS fix check mark on the About screen?
The GPS check box has a green check if the Android has a GPS fix. It shows the age of the fix, in seconds, and the number of satellites currently visible. If the number of satellites falls below 4 the text will turn red. Below four satellites the accuracy of the fix begins to decline. Chain Gang still works, but it may not know exactly where you are.
A gray check means that no GPS fix is available. This may be because GPS has been turned off, be sure and check that in your "Android's Security and Location" settings. It also may mean that the Android cannot "see" the satellites. This can be cured by giving the Android a clearer view to the sky, like taking it outside or placing it by a window. GPS signals are not received well inside buildings, under ground or under water (should you try to use Chain Gang in a submarine).
What is the Compass available check mark on the About screen?
The Compass check box has a green check if the Android has a magnetic compass capability. With a compass Chain Gang can display the Chain radar screen and the
pointers. If no compass is available then the Chain radar is not available and the pointers are not shown.
Because the compass is magnetic you will notice that it sometimes behaves oddly inside a car or when you re near other metal objects. Holding the Android near computers or televisions or other things that generate magnetic fields can cause the compass to behave oddly too.
Why do the pointers sometimes stop moving?
Sometimes when scrolling through the list of restaurant locations the arrows will stop moving. Just touch the screen to get them moving again.
Where is the chain I am looking for?
Chain Gang's GeoBase is continually being updated. If it does not contain a chain you are looking for feel free to contact chaingang@woodmanexp.com.
Why is a chain's location not showing?
Chain Gang is fast and precise. If you come upon a location that is not showing, even though you might be looking at the restaurant, then it is not in the GeoBase. Please feel free to contact chaingang@woodmanexp.com to note the missing location.
